Hello world!

February 13, 2007

This blog has the aim to keep tracks of my personal research project “Through the Wonderland of Modernity – the use of photomanipulations by media and its influence in our lives”. The research is part of my master course at Fachochschule Potsdam/University of Applied Sciences (Germany) with the advices of Prof. Winfried Gerling (European Media Studies), Prof. Jörg Hunderpfund (Design-FHP) and Prof. Gabriel Patrocínio (Esdi/Rj).

The focus is how the use of manipulated images (photographic images) can alter our perception of the world and influence in our lives. Two main aspects will be considered:

1.beauty and media – use of manipulated photos by magazines and ads directed to women, its influence in women´s self-image and self-steeem.

2. information society – use of manipulated images to alter or amplify the significance of a hapenning, for instance: altered photographs of war to enhance the damage and modify the audience perception.

This work is mainly investigative and as a practical part the aim is to create an exhibition dealing with the aspects of the “reality created by media”. To this, I will use as inspirational source two books to trace a parallel between media and the reality seen by media. Lewis Carroll was the chosen author – Alice in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking Glass.
