Pig and Pepper

- invitation

- the Duchess

- a baby

- soup

- too much pepper

- cheshire cat

” `You don’t know much´, said the Duchess `and that’s a fact.´”

” `If everybody minded their own business,´the Duchess said in a hoarse growl, `the world would go round a deal faster than it does.´”

” `Which would not be an advantage´, said Alice, who felt very glad to get an opportunity of showing off a little of her knowledge. `Just think of what work it would make with the day and night! You see the earth takes twenty-four hours to turn round on its axis – ´

`Talking of axes,´said the Duchess, `chop off her head!´ “

” `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?´

`That depends a good deal on where you want to get to´, said the Cat.

`I don´t much care where´ said Alice.

`Then it doesn’t matter which way you go´said the Cat

`– so long as I get somewhere,´Alice added as an explanation. ”

Advise from a Caterpillar

One of my favorites dialogues can be found here…

” `Who are you?´said the Caterpillar. (…)

`I can’t explain myself, I’m afraid, sir´, said Alice, `because I’m not myself, you see.´”

“`What size do you want to be?´it asked.”

“One side will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow shorter.´”

” `Well, what are you?´said the Pigeon. `I can see you´re trying to invent something´”

The Rabbit send in a Little Bill

(back to my extracts from Alice in Wonderland)

- a pair of gloves and a fan

- little bottle that stood near the looking-glass

” `I know something interesting is sure to happen´, she said to herself, `whenever I eat or drink anything; so I’ll just see what this bottle does.(…)´”

“But then´, thought Alice, `shall I never get any older than I am now? that’ll be a comfort, one way – never to be an old woman – but then – always to have lessons to learn! oh, I shouldn’t like that!´”

” `If I eat one of these cakes´, she thought, `it’s sure to make some change in my size (…)´”

- cakes

” `The first thing I’ve got to do´, said Alice to herself, as she wandered about in the wood, `is to grow to my right size again; and the second thing is to find my way into that lovely garden. I think that will be the best plan.´”

- large mushroom

- large blue caterpillar

- long hookah

Masters of Photography

The art of photography or photograph as art…

The video below is a sort of brief showcase showing great photos done by great photographers. Worth a view… Inspiring images.

Etymology

“According to the Oxford English Dictionary [Oxford University Press, 1st edition 1884-1928; 2nd edition 1989], the first recorded uses of photography, photograph, and photographic are by Herschel, in a paper that he read to the Royal Society on March 14, 1839. Photography seems to be an adaptation of German Photographie, itself already in use. The etymology of photography (or Photographie) is clear enough: from the Greek roots, phos, phot- ‘light’ and graphos ‘writing’. Literally, photography means ‘light recording’. The element -graph- occurs frequently in other technical terms and terms for technical processes which involve some notion of describing, recording, or reproduction, in words or images: hence geography, biography, cinematography (Greek kinema, kinemat- ‘movement’), and so on.”

I´d like to teach the world to sing

“However, this bottle was not marked ´poison´, so Alice ventured to taste it, and finding it very nice (it had, in fact, a sort of mixed flavour of cherry-tart,custard, pine-apple, roast turkey, toffee, and hot buttered toast,) she very soon finished it off.”

I have to admit, I do like a good ad!! Here just one from Coke which I bumped into totally accidentally, but I liked it… Coke or Coca-Cola is for me one of those companies that make amazing campaigns! I don´t drink Coke but I love the ads! Specially the ones for TV with good jingles. Does anyone doubt the power of consumerism industry?? ;-)

Eat Me, Drink Me

Just some visual interpretation concerning (again) the first chapter of Alice´s Wonderland. (see the post below – down the rabbit-hole).

1984

My project deals with digital photography, its manipulation and the implications of this in our lives, so why I´m posting movie´s extracts?

Well…firstly because this is a research phase and finding (inter) relations and conections in different medium is a good exercise. Secondly because movies are also images like photographs though in movemt. Another point to consider is the movies I´m posting here relate (somehow) with the idea of a “build” reality and the power of media. In conclusion, you may not agree they have some connections to the topic of use of manipulated photos on media, it´s an opinion…But in my point of view they certanly do…and of course there´s a link to wonderland!!

1984 – a dystopia novel written in 1949 by George Orwell. The thematic goes round surveillance, freedom of though /think and feel. The society is commanded by the Big Brother.

Advertisement Break

Alice´s transformations of size are related to eat or drink something. So i found interesting to bring it out to our time, posting related stuff about eating and drinking, in a media/advertisement context. Although my main focus in on photography, here i take the freedom to post all media types, as this intent to be an inspirational source to a visual work. Hope you also enjoy it and if you have contributions to share, please be my guest!!First is a video parody of Dove Campaign for Real Beauty which, in my option, reflects the (fast) food consumerism and eating habits of the modern society. Keeping on the food chain, an extrac of “Super Size Me”(2004), a documentary film direct by Morgan Spurlock.

And last but not least…. some photoshop tricks… Eat me. Drink me. Photoshop me…

A Caucus-Race and a Long Tale

- queer-looking party.

“`I am older than you, and must know better´; and this Alice would not allow without knowing how old it was, and, as the Lory positively refused to tell its age, there was no more to be said.”

“(…) that the best thing to get us dry would be a Caucus-Race.”

“`Why´, said the Dodo, `the best way to explain it is to do it.´”

- prizes, prizes.

- judge, jury.

“Ah, my dear´Let this be a lesson to you never to lose your temper.´”
